Vicosoprano - 2008
Competition 1st place
The building - a simple rectangle - is precisely inserted into the facade lines of the existing constructions. This integration along the street additionally reinforces the road space. The multi-purpose centre was developed in such a way that all retail spaces and offices face the main street. In order to achieve the greatest possible flexibility, the load-bearing walls were reduced to the outer perimeter and the inner partition between the commercial services and the entrance. In order not to place a static load on any transverse internal walls, the bracing of the building envelope was designed as St. Andrew's crosses.
As the Punto Bregaglia is a centre point for the community of Vicosoprano, its design clearly stands out from all the other constructions along the road. At the same time, the use of local larch wood embeds the place with the local building culture.
