Maloja - 2014
To provide high-quality and affordable housing for the local population, the Mota Farun housing cooperative was founded in 2012. The plot on the southern edge of the village, just before the Maloja Pass, was acquired by the municipality of Bregaglia.
The building, which comprises a total of seven family flats, is divided in the middle into two slightly offset building sections connected by a common staircase. This division reduces the massiveness of the building volume and allows for a more harmonious integration into the existing village structure. In addition, the staircase benefits from natural daylight, and the flats also receive improved and longer sun exposure.
The building envelope, which consists of coloured exposed concrete, refers to the surrounding older buildings with its warm, red-brown hue, all of which have a similarly earthy colour. The surface of the exposed concrete, structured by means of board formwork, reflects the rough texture of the surroundings.
